Green up your home with an energy assessment. Get up to £10,000 for energy improvements which could include external wall insulation & benefit from a warmer home at no extra cost. For this you will require an accredited Green Deal Advisor to visit your home to determine what energy improvements could be made to improve the fabric of the home or upgrade your heating system. The assessor will carry out a complete energy survey and produce an Energy Performance Certificate (EPC) and an Occupancy Assessment that will make recommendation improvements. Some improvements may get full funding for the upfront costs, while others may require a contribution towards the initial costs.
Once the recommendations have been made, the Energy Performance Certificate and Occupancy Assessment will go to make up the Green Deal Report. This can then be used to approach a Green Deal Provider for funding.
Funding for the measures are paid back over a period of years on a loan basis. However the charge for this is attached to the property and not to the owner of the property. If a property changes hands then the new owner/bill payer will take on the charge, as they are now benefiting from the savings.
Ultimately it is only the Provider who can approve the chosen measures that can be installed at the property, as this will be determined by the "Golden Rule" that ensures that the savings for the measure are more than or equal to the cost of the measure installed. This will ensure that there will be no extra cost for the bill payers who will benefit from the deal. It is therefore a "pay as you save" scheme that is attached to the electricity meter and payed off against your electricity bill.
The Green Deal Provider will put together the Green Deal Plan based on the improvement measure costs, any interest charged and the length of the loan arrangement. The Provider will arrange for accredited Green Deal Installers to carry out the work if you accept the quote that they give you.
Extra ECO (Energy Company Obligation) subsidies will be available to ensure that the "Golden Rule" is reached for those on benefits and those with solid wall, or hard to treat homes.
